Searching for Product/Service
You can search for
any product or service with Spidercost.
To search:
- Begin typing the name of the product or service you are looking for. (In the initial search, we are looking for an "Item Group," not an item with exact specifications.)
- If the search reveals what you are looking for, select it by clicking on the item result or use the keyboard up/down arrow keys followed by the "enter" key.
- If no existing result is found, no problem! Just type in the full name of what you are looking for, then hit "enter" or click on the topmost search result.
You may notice subtle differences between search results of different items. This is because Spidercost is designed to handle all situations, as explained below.
a. Classified Items
Classified Items are items that have previously gone through our system, been quoted by a supplier, and approved by the Spidercost support team.
After selecting an item group from the search, you will be presented with a "Quick Select" field if the group contains classified items.
- Narrow down the results by typing in the Quick Select search field.
- Select the item you want or the closest match.
- You will be presented with pre-populated item fields.
b. Existing Item Group
Existing Item Groups will show in a "Get Prices" search, but no items (with specific details) relating to that group have gone through the system yet.
After selecting an item group from the search, if the item group does not contain any classified items, you will be presented with a "Specifications" field or other field groups to add additional information related to that specific group.
c. New Item Group
A New Item Group is a search that hasn't yet gone through our system and doesn't yet exist in our database or exists by a different name.
After entering your new item, you
may see a pop-up modal, where we attempt to match your search to an existing item group. If none of the suggestions are satisfactory, click on "None of the above."
You will then be presented with a "Specifications" field.
Item Fields
Depending on what you search for and whether on not the item exists in our database, you will see different fields displayed. Note: not all fields are necessarily required. Here is a list of some of the more common fields.
Specifications:
Enter additional item details not yet specified at the Item Group level. This may include dimensions, colour, finish, grade, material, etc.
Note to Supplier:
Use this field to relay any additional information to the seller. We suggest you use it for uncommon or user-specific info.
For example, "Any colour is fine, although I'd prefer red if you have stock."
Qty Required:
A numerical value that specifies the Quantity required. This may include a decimal value.
For example, "1.2."
Qty (Units):
Define the unit of measure for "Qty." Default is "Units," but you may want to specify a different unit of measure.
For example, 12 "meters."
Type in the search field to speed up selection.
Add to Basket
After populating the necessary item fields, click on the "ADD TO BASKET" button.
You can add multiple items to your basket, even if they are unrelated. Each item will be matched to suppliers independently.
